In helping to raise awareness of literacy efforts in San Diego county, employees of Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI), a provider of innovative solutions that advance learning, will compete in the San Diego Council on Literacy’s “The Bee” to be held Thursday, February 23, at The Pavilion at The Four Points by Sheraton in Serra Mesa.

“The teams are very excited to participate in the upcoming spelling bee,” said Jennifer Love Bruce, Bridgepoint’s director of Community Relations. “While embracing our giving mission and supporting a great cause, they get to have a little fun too!”

The Bee, benefitting the San Diego Council on Literacy and its 25 affiliated literacy programs, is a spelling competition that consists of about 16 teams of three competing against teams from other companies, schools and non-profit organizations from San Diego County. The mission of the literacy council is to work to unify our community for greater literacy through leadership, advocacy and resources. Every year, more than 165,000 individuals of all ages receive no-cost literacy services in San Diego.

The event, held at the Sheraton located at 8110 Aero Drive in San Diego, kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with a reception that includes hors d’oeuvres and desserts. The program begins at 6 p.m. Tickets for spectators are $10 and include prize giveaway opportunities.

Joining Bridgepoint Education as The Bee’s major sponsors are U.S. Bank, Petco, Kaiser Permanente, Luce Forward Hamilton & Scripps, LLP, and U-T San Diego along with a host of other corporate sponsors.
